Why ONYX believes that its solution is open source, he will win by searching for the institution

Institutions have data and internal information that employees need to complete their duties or answer questions to potential customers. But this does not mean that the correct information is easy to find.
Onyx wants to solve this problem with the inner search tool for institutions. There are other big names in this category, such as Glean-which raised $ 600 million of project financing-fighting for the market share in the hot category, but San Francisco-based Onyx has a discrimination that helps separate it from the package. It is open source.
Companies can operate ONYX in about 30 minutes, connecting to more than 40 internal company data sources, including Salesforce, GitHub and Google Drive. The institution’s users can then pay additional levels of features such as increased login and increased encryption.
Chris Weaver, co -founder and participated in ONYX, Techcrunch that he and his co -founder and participant in CEO Yuhong Sun were originally to fix a problem he and Sun seen in their engineering roles.
“We knew where things were almost, but they were still difficult,” and) new people who were unable to find anything, “Wifer said. “I felt that there should be a better way to do this.”
Onyx is not Weaver and SUN’s first attempt to build a company. Their first idea, which is the live statistics tracking app, was going well until Twitch kills hosted currents and made the product not mainly used. Their second effort, a site to help people compare specialized keyboards, has not succeeded either.
But with the background of SUN’s machine and general progress in artificial intelligence technology, ONYX – which was originally called DansWer, is Portmanteau for the deep answer – different. They released the open project in the original source in 2023 and obtained momentum and strong reactions immediately.
“The slope was in fact one of the first differences that we found,” said Sun. “At that time, we had no way to pay us or anything. We had nothing like support plans or anything else, and there were no paid features. For us, it was so, people really wanted to pay the price of our project. I mean, it’s free, but people want to pay for that. So, as you know, there is an opportunity to create a job from this.”
The company works today with dozens of companies, including Netflix, RAMP and Thales Group. Sun and Weaver are largely attributed to the company’s success to open the source of the program. Companies have allowed the experience and avoiding the long -term sales cycle.
“The open source is in fact the only way to this type of solution to expand the scope of momentum in every work in the world,” Wifer said.
Although I am sure that the open source is the winning strategy for internal research, the team enters a competitive field. Besides startups such as Glean, they face competition from companies that build their internal solutions, such as Fintech Klarna, which built an internal search tool and chat, Kiki.
ONYX has not been deterred. The start of the inner search tool from the zero point is really difficult, and Onyx is believed to be a founding tool for companies that want to build their internal search products. He said that the evidence is in the numbers.
“We have seen use growing explosive,” said Sun. “We have reached the height of more than 160,000 messages in one week. We really hope to tend to this organic growth and hope that all teams in the world are one day.”
The company recently attracted a $ 10 million seed tour by Khosla Ventures and First Round Capital, with the participation of Y Combinator and Angel Investors. Among them is Gokol Rajarm, a former member of the board of directors at Coinbase and Pinterest; Arash Ferdowsi, co -founder of Dropbox; Agarat Ajarwal, the chief of the former product employee in Datadog.
Onyx plans to use money to employ employees and develop more distinct features.
